Review & Give-Away: Happy Heinys One Size Cloth Diaper

I’m very pleased to present to you our first Review/Give-Away event here on
Oh Baby O: Happy Heinys One Size Cloth Diaper!

Cloth diapering is very important to me and my husband. It’s a huge part of our natural parenting philosophy and it also saves us money! Baby O is growing quickly (13 lbs at 2 months!) and in our quest to continue to cloth diaper our son as well as save money, we’ve been looking into one size cloth diapers. I know many other families have similar goals so it makes me very happy to be able to not only offer a review of a Happy Heinys One Size Cloth Diaper, but a give-away as well!

Happy Heinys is family-centered business that puts children first. All of their seamstresses are mothers themselves! Their one-size diapers fit most babies from 7.5-35 lbs, from birth to potty training! Since Baby O was born weighing 9lbs, 6 oz, there has never been a time when this diaper would not have worked for him and it should continue to fit until he potty trains. That’s a lot of wear from one diaper! Sounds like a good investment to me!

The diaper has a total of four snaps on the front, allowing you to adjust the rise and in effect giving you four different sizes. Baby O is about 13 lbs now and wears his Happy Heinys diaper on the second set of snaps from the bottom, in the “small” position.
The outer layer of the diaper is made of waterproof PUL and the inner layer is a super soft fleece. One of the first things I noticed when our diaper arrived was how very soft the fleece is!
These particular one size diapers come with either velcro or snaps for fastening. Our diaper has velcro. This was our first experience using a cloth diaper that fastens with velcro. I wondered if we would like it, if the velcro would be as durable as snaps, if it would be difficult to get a good fit, and if the velcro would somehow irritate Baby O’s tummy. B and I both found we actually quite like the velcro. Fastening the diaper with velcro allows us to get the tabs exactly where we need them every time.
There are laundry tabs located next to the velcro on the diaper in order to protect other diapers while washing. Personally, I thought this was genius! So far, we have not had any durability issues or problems with the velcro bothering Baby O’s tummy; his tummy only touches the nice soft fleece lining.
Another concern we had when considering a one size diaper is bulk. This diaper was suprisingly less bulky than expected. I actually don’t find it to be any more bulky than some of our sized pocket diapers!

I learned that the prints are made of cotton fabric so some people experience wicking. HH suggests using prints during the day and solid diapers at night.

I’m impressed that these last 12 hours at night, and I love all the colors. We are using Kissaluvs for our newborn but will be upgrading to pocket diapers once she is a little bigger. The Happy Heinys look great! And I love they have a snap and velcro option – I’d love to try both

It’s not reall CD related, but I just learned that Happy Heinys is home based only a mile from where I live! I never knew that. Also, I love the prints that Happy Heinys has. You can get a nice, solid prints or a fun print for all occasions.

I love the HH FAQ page – keeps it simple. I think many people shy away from CDing because they think you need to be a chemist to launder them. Totally bookmarking that for future reference!

My husband and I are due with our first baby in Nov. and are going to use cloth diapers, I have never heard of this brand, so I loved browsing the website and I think this is the brand we are going to go with, we had orginally planned to use Bum Genius.
