I know you’ve all been anxiously awaiting this review/give-away; it’s a good one! As previously mentioned, Baby O has started gnawing on everything. A couple of weeks ago Plan Toys (Green Toys, Green Company) sent us four of their baby toys to review:
The Ring

The Spin Bell

The Teddy

and The Butterfly

So far the ring and the spin bell are favorites for Baby O. The ring is especially nice as he is learning to grasp things. He holds it with both hands and chews on it, drooling all the while! As I mentioned in my earlier post, Plan Toys uses water based paints. No need to worry about baby chewing on these toys! The ring can also be used as a rattle, making a quiet little noise for baby. When I first shook this toy I didn’t think it made much a of a noise and wasn’t sure it would keep Baby O’s interest as far as using it for a rattle. As it turns out, he seems to prefer the more gentle sound of the pieces of wood hitting over the more harsh noises that other baby toys make. His parents prefer it too!
The spin bell also makes quiet little wooden noises. (Just another reason to love wood toys!) The bell can be shaken like a rattle or you can twist its string and let it spin to baby’s visual delight! Sometimes we hang it for Baby O so he can watch the rainbow of colors spin from below. The only thing that makes me nervous about the spin bell is that if the balls come unglued they could definitely be a choking hazard. I suggest tugging on them periodically to make sure they’re still nice and secure.
Developmentally, Baby O isn’t quite into playing with the teddy and butterfly as of now. We’re looking forward to playing with them though and my husband and I can both see how they will be good toys for playing and learning. The teddy is very satisfying to the touch. It is smooth with movable arms and legs. The packaging for the teddy says it will help with communication skills as baby can practice talking to the teddy. Baby O doesn’t “talk” to his toys yet (though he does talk to mama and papa), but he does seem to prefer to look at toys that have faces, like teddy.
The butterfly is just so darn cute! It is an educational toy you can use to show your child the life cycle of a butterfly. The fabric wings on the butterfly are removable, making the butterfly first a caterpillar. The wings can then be buttoned around the caterpillar forming a cocoon. Lastly, the fabric can be threaded back through the caterpillar creating the butterfly.
Like the balls on the spin bell, I would suggest checking the button on the butterfly periodically, just to be sure!

Hey, I learned that they sell these toys at a store that is less than 4 miles from my house called BellaBella Organics. I didn’t know that store was there. Will have to check it out sometime.
Plan Toys is made from Rubberwood after it is done the latex-producing cycle. I googled rubberwood to find out how long it takes for it to grow (wondering if it was kinda like bamboo) couldn’t find that info. However found out that it is prized as environmentally friendly wood as it makes use of trees that have been cut at the end of their latex producing cycle.
Their toys are made from rubberwood trees that would otherwise be destroyed; very cool idea!
They are committed to giving back to the community and founded The Children’s Toy Museum.
PlanToys has a huge Earth Day celebration. That is cool!

Great review! Thanks for letting us know about them. How about some Non-Toxic E-Zero Glue for assembling toys? Now if we could only get that for our home…:-)
